Jean-Maurice Raffault Chinon Blanc is a 2024 Chenin Blanc from Chinon in the Loire Valley. It is fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks with only native yeasts. The wine is rich yet very fresh, with notes of citrus, honey and white fruits.
The Raffault family has grown vines in Chinon for 14 generations, since their ancestor Mathurin Bottreau bought his first parcel in 1693. Domaine Jean-Maurice Raffault now owns 50 hectares in 7 communes, and its Chenin Blanc vines average 20 years of age. After taking over in 1973, Jean-Maurice began vinifying each parcel separately and naming wines for their sites, a practice now common in Chinon. His son Rodolphe has been winemaker and manager since 1997. Farming is organic, and the wines age in caves cut into limestone cliffs.
