Terras do Grifo Red 2016 is a medium-body red wine, a blend of a few different red grape varieties of the Douro region: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cao and Sousao. On the eye: beautiful ruby color On the nose: fragrances of violets and some spices on the nose followed by fine fruity aromas (red fruits) and well integrated oaky notes On the palate: rounded body, soft, young, fruity with smooth tannins, good acidity, depth and freshness. Expressive and harmonious finish. Terras do Grifo Red 2016 is a harmonious red wine and would be an ideal accompaniment to cheeses, charcuterie plates, pasta as well as smoked meat dishes. Demarcated in 1756, the Douro Valley is one of the world's oldest AOC and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. More than 2,000 years of human influence and winemaking have shaped it into a terraced, vine-covered, wine-producing destination. Winemakers have physically carved out the soils of the Region to accommodate vines. Created in 2004, Quinta Do Grifo is one of the most recent wine growing Estate established in Europe: its 120-hectares vineyard is exclusively composed of "A" classified
vines, all planted on a single hillside plot along the Douro River, overlooking the Region. Quinta Do Grifo has been named as a tribute to the grifos, large vultures that can be seen in the skies over the magnificent Douro Valley. Quinta do Grifo is one of the rare estates to produce both red wines and young vintage ports on the same plot. The terraced vineyard is planted in schist soils, giving aromatic richness and minerality to the Estate's wines. After hand-picking, a prolonged maceration and then alcoholic fermentation occur in either stainless steel tanks or in "lagares" by means of the traditional crushing by foot. Wine is aged for 8 months in French oak barrels (new or 2nd year).
