This wine is from Italy, Tuscany region, Montepulciano sub-region. Founded in 1961 by Dino Carletti, Azienda Agricola Poliziano is located a few miles northeast of Montelpulciano, Italy. Dinosson Frederico inherited the winery in 1982 and subsequently expanded the estate while improving overall quality. Today,Frederico and renowned winemaking consultants Carlo Ferrini and Maurizio Castelli oversee the 297 acre property, themajority of which is planted on the southern slope of the old town hill in Montepulicano. The Lohsa estate located in Maremmawas purchased in the late 1990s and is Polizianos second largest holding. This 65 acre property is planted primarily toCabernet Sauvignon followed by Prugnolo Gentile, Ciliegiolo, Malvasia Nera and Canaiolo and supplies the grapes forMorellino di Scansano and Mandrone di Lohsa Rosso. The cornerstone of the estate remains Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the cultivation of a regional Sangiovese clone calledPrugnolo Gentile. In the proper hands, Prugnolo Gentile is capable of producing profound wines of balance, structure andelegance and Poliziano has proven its mastery of this varietal crafting modern, polished Brunellos that clearly express regionalcharacter. One of Montepulcianos reference-point producers' ~ The Wine Advocate 2010. When released in 1983, Asinone was the first single vineyard wine produced in Tuscany. The grapes are sourced from the best and oldest estate parcels - a 22 acre plot that was planted in 1963 and a 12 acre parcel that was planted in 1991, both of which are situated at 1,115 feet on soft clay soils. Asinone is only produced in the best years and in limited quantities; the blend is driven based on the vintage and is either 100% Prugnolo Gentile or 90% Prugnolo Gentile with approximately 10% of Colorino and Merlot. The hand-picked grapes were macerated and fermented in stainless steel tanks for 20-25 days and matured for 16-18 months in French oak barriques.. A powerful full-bodied red that balances volume with depth, the wine offers lovely, round notes of roasted plums, berries, black cherries, fresh herbs and mocha. Firm but vibrant tannins and acids provide lift and structure. Hints of tar, smoke and licorice with a slight undertone of oak linger on the long and creamy finish.. Enjoy with grilled meats, game and aged cheese. SANGIOVESE Wine
