Bright and balanced, the Avant Lower Calorie Chardonnay displays flavors of grapefruit, pineapple and creamy lemon meringue, highlighted by delicate notes of white flower. Aged in small oak barrels, French cooperage gives this white wine a touch of vanilla and hazelnut on the mid-palate that broadens through an elegant finish. Founded in 1982, the Kendall-Jackson story is one of family, quality and stewardship. Eight years after planting chardonnay grapes on his Lake County property, founder, Jess Jackson, and his family set out to make a premium, yet affordable, California wine. In 1983, Jess sold the first case ever of Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay at the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Station. That same year, the inaugural vintage of Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay won the first-ever Platinum Award for an Americanย Chardonnay at The American Wine Competition and was a featured favorite at the Reagan's White House, dubbed "Nancy's wine." Committed to aging and fermenting wine in French Oak barrels, Jess purchased a stave mill in Northeastern France in 1991, making Kendall-Jackson the only American winery to share ownership in a French stave mill. One year later, Kendall-Jackson Vintner's Reserve Chardonnay became the #1 selling Chardonnay in America and remains so to this day.
